Usually held in the US, this year's meeting attracted around 700 delegates, mostly lab staff.

The conference topics were: morphology, flow cytometry, haemostasis. Coagulation was well represented with three specific sessions dedicated to research and innovation, point of care and oral anticoagulant therapy.

Bruce Furie (USA) challenged our perceived ideas about thrombus formation and illustrated his presentation with extraordinary in vivo images.

Paul Harrison (UK) discussed microparticles (MP) and their clinical implications, describing the available assays for MP detection such as the STA®-Procoag PPL.

A lot of the talks were also centred around oral anti-coagulants and their monitoring, the advantages and issues of point-of-care INR monitoring and the new molecules coming on the market such as Dabigatran and Rivaroxaban in the UK.

Stago was present in the exhibition area with other important haematology companies. This laboratory meeting was a good opportunity to promote our latest diagnostic assays such as the STA®-Liatest® FM, for an earlier diagnosis of DIC.
